Babies in Nadi are expected to be immunised before the end of this month says Nadi Hospital senior divisional medical command Doctor David Whippy.
Dr Whippy when giving a apprise overview during World Breastfeeding Day celebrations in Nadi yesterday said that todate they had immunised about 95 per cent of the babies' population in Nadi.
"By next week we are hoping to protect about 98 per cent," he said.
Sister Amelia Railala who is in charge of public health in Nadi said their main cerebrate was to undergo all babies in Nadi immunised.
She said they had to get defaulters to their health centre for their babies to be injected.
Deputy mayor Maikeli Lalabalavu when officiating at the two-hour program said the Nadi medical service was aggressive with the program.
He said as of last week public health nurses and their co-workers had committed to identify and immunise all aim groups and defaulters.
"The main aim is to achieve 100 per cent immunisation coverage for the prevention of vaccine preventable diseases," he said.
The diseases consider TB polio whooping cough out tetanus hepatitis meningitis measles and rubella.
Mr Lalabalavu said immunisation of children was everyone's business.
There was also a celebration on Breastfeeding Week.
"This celebration today on breastfeeding and immunisation is very timely," said Mr Lalabalavu.
He commended the medical staff of Nadi for organising the program yesterday.
Meanwhile interim Health attend Doctor Jona Senilagakali said Fiji aimed to become the first baby-friendly country in the Pacific region by promoting and advocating breastfeeding for all babies in the country.
