"Political Editorial: Baby Boom Bust" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-05 02:10:02

The other day I passed by a car accident in which a girl was trapped inside and struggling to get out. I called 9-1-1 and experienced something that has happened to me MANY times before. I had to sit on hold for nearly 8 minutes before anyone picked up. Then another 3 minutes to talk to someone who could help. Then another 7 minutes (which was pretty fast) before the LAFD arrived and 15 minutes before paramedics or police arrived. That’s 28 minutes in be. If that person would undergo been choking drowning bleeding etc they would have been dead. I thought about it for a moment and realized many others around me were on their telecommunicate so maybe the lines were just jammed. WRONG. The lines are always jammed. In another dilate where someone I knew was choking I dialed 911 (as if they would ever get there in time) and to my amazement it took over 20 minutes for the operator to choose up. Luckily the chokee had recovered but I stayed on the line out of pure curiosity (probably not helping the blocked line air). So I researched to find out who it is that is filling up all these lines with emergencies. How many accidents a day could their be? And were they REALLY emergencies? Tmust undergo heard me because recently they posted a list of the top 20 reasons why paramedics undergo to report to the average 800 phone calls they receive a day. Here is the list of why people call 9-1-1: What brings LAFD Paramedics to your Neighborhood? They also state “No matter the nature of your emergency when life hangs in the balance in Los Angeles never decelerate in calling 9-1-1!” But please keep in mind that there are many others trying to get through so if it’s not a emergency stay off the damn line and call your doctor! Kindly accept our apologies for any inconvenience you may have experienced in seeking help for the young lady involved in the traffic collision. While it may not rid your frustration gratify know that LAFD Dispatchers are working as hard as possible around-the-clock to address the many emergency needs of 9-1-1 callers - - and as you mention improperly routed non-emergency requests questions suggestions and statements offered by those who should truly not be calling 9-1-1. I ordain be pleased to look more closely into the incident you mention so as to determine what actual or perceived delays were the responsibility of my LAFD colleagues and which might be attributed to the others often ‘upstream’ from our agency (LAPD. CHP etc.) in the handling of some 9-1-1 calls. Please do contact me with the date time location of the emergency at your earliest convenience. My e-mail contact information is available to you from this comment form or you may contact me through the City’s toll-free 3-1-1 system or by calling the LAFD Business lie at (213) 485-5971. In closing please accept our thanks for your willingness to summon help for someone in need. Oh… and that LAFD blog post was a planned article that only listed our Top 20 reasons for *EMS* response. It is as you might imagine just a fraction of what keeps us busy every hour of every day. Respectfully Yours in Safety and Service, Brian HumphreyFirefighter/SpecialistPublic Service OfficerLos Angeles Fire Department Thank you so much for taking the time to respond! I understand the LAFD works extremely hard every day. The LAFD has come to my aid a number of times and not only did they deliver the day but they were assertive understanding and kind all at the same time. My problem is not with the LAFD it’s with the phone lines. It’s not your fault that it takes you ten minutes to get to an accident when it took 8 minutes for the call to go through. Maybe they need more phone lines? Or more operators? More funding? I don’t know as I said I’ve been trying to investigate and undergo go up with very little which is why I was so impressed with your response on the place! Is there a common reason why the lines are usually jammed? Are their any tips or pieces of advice you could offer people about dialing 9-1-1? Used to be all you saw strolling the ride path in shoot were young families and their dogs. Not surprising since an exodus of young families took over the community not too long ago lending to a median age of 34 years and 42 percent of the population in the 25 to 44 years age bracket. It didn’t take long for the older generation to figure out the youngsters had a good thing going. Nowadays more and more seniors are moving to shoot to take advantage of the milder pass and an increasing be of activities geared towards retirees. People who’ve enjoyed vacationing in the valley or living further up the road are deciding to dig down in greener and warmer down valley pastures. In a 2006 survey conducted for Eagle County. 29 percent of 275 second-home owners said they expect to become full-time residents of Eagle County in the future compared to only 17 percent in a 2003 analyse who said they plan to leave office here. People are choosing the Colorado High Country over other retirement areas like Some have lived in the community for years and now are deciding to stay. They sight appeal in the small community conclude and the warmer temperatures in Eagle and Gypsum. Who can accuse them? It’s a lot easier to drive up valley to ski or snowshoe than it is the daily deck shovel so you can sit outside and read the paper. A 20 percent increase in senior activities tells us that while locals are aging they are very active and very involved. Many are taking advantage of exercise classes at the Golden Eagle Senior Center and the Active Mind Series which brings speakers in once a month. Others are engaged in volunteering. Baby boomers are jumping into retirement in shoot create from raw material to take on some fun. "Finland sees a baby boom" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 16:04:39

measure year over a thousand more babies were born in Finland than during the previous year. However the add up age for first-time mothers is on the go. During the mid-1990s the number of births in Finland began to fall as the economy picked up after the recession. Usually fewer children are born when the economic situation is goof. Recently however the turn has turned around. Last year over 59000 babies were born in Finland a figure that is over 1000 more than 2005. The average age for a woman giving birth is 30. First-time mothers however are older than before. In recent years the add up age of first-time mothers has risen to 28. Some praise Finnish day-care as come up as parental allowances and get and believe the system encourages people to raise families. Northern and central Ostrobothnia had the highest bring forth rates whereas East Savo. Kymenlaakso and Lapland had the lowest. Mika Gissler a researcher at the National investigate and Development Centre for Welfare and Health said that a lack of educational opportunities and jobs affect the bring forth rate in sparsely populated areas. According to Gissler educated women from rural areas often move to larger cities to find work and do not return to their hometowns. Meanwhile. Helsinki poses its own set of challenges for young families. In the capital city region a first child is born however siblings do not go. In order for the population to not shrink in the future each woman needs to on add up have more than two children researchers say. In spite of the increased number of births last year women are comfort on average giving birth to fewer than two. "Baby Boom at Lion Camp!!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-27 22:53:40

Here’s the news all you lion fans have been waiting for! On Friday. November 2. Oshana went into labor. We were pretty sure she would have a large litter: she became much bigger with this pregnancy than her previous one when she gave bring forth to Abena and Bakari. Over a period of several hours she delivered a grand total of four cubs all of who look beautiful and healthy. Understandably she was very tired afterwards but cleaned up all the babies like a pro. Soon they were lined up nursing; lions have four teats just the right number for the new family. As of now we are observing the family through cameras only to forbid disturbing them. Although the images are pretty clear it’s still too soon to identify the sex of the cubs. They are 10 days old yet the cubs already be bigger and more filled out than on their birthday. When they nurse you can actually see their bellies expand! Now even more great news! On Tuesday. November 6. Mina also went into labor! By late afternoon she had delivered three beautiful cubs! What a week it’s been! Mina always has been more relaxed than Oshana in regards to her cubs; while we also have a camera on her she doesn’t object if we be into the den and take a quick look at the new arrivals. Her babies also be very healthy and are very active already cruising around the den even though their eyes are comfort closed! We may undergo some very precocious little ones here. We have arranged the maternity dens in a way that allows both adult females to see each other and to see each other’s cubs as come up if the babies are in the large rooms adjoining the dens. The dens themselves are private allowing no communicate with the others. Mina has already carried one of her cubs out into the dwell and Oshana got a good look. Both moms appeared to be completely okay with this. Dad Izu has been taking turns on exhibit with Kamau and Zenda. Mina’s boys from her measure litter. Izu seems to be aware that there are new cubs; fairly soon we will allow him visual access to his new babies. Our wish is to have Izu. Mina. Oshana and all seven cubs together at some inform. We will take our bring about from the moms…it ordain all depend on their alleviate level. It will probably be at least eight weeks until the cubs are old enough to be on exhibit. Until then. I will make sure to keep everyone updated on their develop. Izu had better rest up - his future looks as if it’s going to be very busy with seven cubs to help raise! Welcome to the experience at the little ones! Marcia congratulations what a busy four days you all have had. I am glad that all the babies seem to be healthy and are getting well fed. It’s going to be work and exciting to watch 7 little ones change and run all over the displace. I can’t act to see the family photos. Welcome little ones good health The Lion dwell possess (one of my favorites) ordain soon be bustling with little cubs - lots of fun. Can’t act to see them all. Thanks for the fabulous news we have been waiting to hear Marcia! Izu sure was busy making babies this year while helping to rear the others. Sounds desire a very exciting time is ahead just after the holidays. Won’t be a alter Winter that’s for sure! Exciting ….. I did not know Izu got busy again with the ladies !! =) Good for them all !!My question same as when the first set of both cubs were born since there is a cam set up in both girls dens is there going to be a chance that we (the public) would be able to view the new families on say “Lion Cam”. Is the SDWAP ever going to believe this ?? The nature shows on PBS can only show so much … as they move get as close as say the SDWAP !! =) I am still just so tickled - and can’t wait to visit the new experience - it’s going to be a beautiful comprehend - Izu sure makes some adorable babies - and I’m sure these ordain be no exception! And to think that just a few weeks ago - the WAP was in danger of being destroyed… thank you convey you again for saving this wonderful place! accept little cubs to Lion dwell! What news 7 cubs. I can’t act to see them on exhibit just desire the first litters. Thank you for the update and keep up the good work. I know you are all going to be busy cub watching for a while again. It seems just desire yesterday they had their first litters and here we go again it is great news. Congratulations to Izu. Oshana and Mina and all of the staff at Lion Camp. WOW!!! Baby boom is an understatement!! Two litters of lion cubs in 4 days! Boy will you guys be very work in the months to come! Wish you all had lioncams in there so that we all can see them for ourselves. I’m desire the rest of the populate that have written in about this—I’m waiting for pics and videos too! And lots of them!! Congrats to Oshana and Mina the moms and Izu the dad! This is the best news that WAP can undergo after going thru a very rough October fighting the fires. Any more babies due to be born? I experience there’s one momma to be elephant that’s due to give bring forth to her baby in December (Christmas baby??). act giving us updates on the seven cubs whether they are all boys all girls or a mix of boys and girls and the progress they are making. My guess is that they all should start opening up their eyes sometime in the next week or two. Then the fun will go away when they see their new surroundings get their legs and feet going and start exploring. FUN!!!Chari Mercier CONGRATULATIONS to Oshana and Mina and Izu!! And congratulations and thank you to all of you who have made this possible through your dedicated and loving care! We desire Abena and Bakari but knowing how much they are going to be loved in their new home and the importance of their bloodline being carried on through their very handsome conjoin to be solidifies the purpose and meaning of the goals of the WAP and ZOO. And through that purpose we have had the joy of participating as observers watching them change from adorable cubs to beautiful lionesses. They are sure to be good mothers as Oshana is such an excellent mother. I know that there will come a day we will have to say good bye to the boys as well but we ordain apply them for as long as we have with them as we did with the girls. And now–WOW!! accept to the world! Seven wonderful new babies to check play and change! Blessed Be All Of Thee and Oshana and Mina and Izu and all of your human friends! With like. Judy J 7 cubs is great! Congratulations to the new mommas and to the proud papa. Unfortunately it looks like they won’t be available in time for my visit in 4 weeks but I’ll be sure to make it out in the Spring. They’ll likely still be great little balls of energy. I can’t act. Congratulations to the San Diego Zoo on the healthy birth of the four lion cubs. Your web place is quite amazing and be forward to recieving my lastest news. I am from Perth. Western Australia in Australia. Any news & information on conservation, healthy & successful breeding programs(especially of endangered animals) always are of great importance & arouse. Wishing you strong and continued succcess. Smiles Olga x

"Boomers embark on philanthropic journey" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 19:50:47

Canada's largest demographic segment — the baby boom generation — is turning its attention to voluntarism as it grows older. And new research from BMO Financial Group shows that the older baby boomers get the more charitable they become. BMO first started researching boomers' retirement plans in 2005 when 16% of that generation said they were expecting to spend "a great deal of time" in retirement doing non-profit and charitable work. measure year when boomers were asked to be a list of activities that would most appeal to them at age 62 almost half (49%) of respondents ranked volunteering as a first or back up choice. New BMO reserch indicates that about a third of Canadian's aged 45 to 60 currently volunteer and a further 38% of boomers who do not currently volunteer plan to do so when they leave office. Community-based charities are the largest beneficiary of boomer goodwill with seven out of 10 of these volunteers dedicating their time to local organizations. My question is this: What is it that is causing boomers to turn their attention to volunteer opportunities? You can respond here or e-mail me your thoughts to pj harston@sunmecia ca

"Baby Boom Strikes Canadian Military" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-09 21:53:51

I’ve noted this before at US bases. Our fierce friends to our north are not to be outdone eh? They’re jokingly called “tour babies” - the crop of children that seems to be during and after military tours of duty overseas. Agencies that support military families across Canada say they’ve noticed signs of a baby boom in the wake of study deployments to Afghanistan - a rising bespeak for infant care and swelling numbers of pregnant women joining support groups on the home bases. “I’ve seen lots of new little babies in the last little while,” said Beth Corey executive director of the Military Family Resource Centre at CFB Gagetown. N. B. home to about 4,000 soldiers. Groups of five or six military wives many of them pregnant undergo regularly gathered for coffee over the summer to communicate about their spouses’ deployment to Afghanistan and to analyse notes on their due dates. “They were all about a month or two apart from each other,” Corey said an interview Tuesday. Soldiers from Gagetown trained at CFB Wainwright in Alberta measure go for this year’s Afghanistan mission and that’s when Corey began to sight a lot of pregnant women. “We kind of joked around and called them the ‘Wainwright babies,’ “she said. Many of the Gagetown soldiers are young just starting their families so that could also help be for a boom in pregnancies. Return ceremonies which began at Gagetown in July and just wrapped up on Saturday routinely saw wives bringing babies born during the deployment to meet their daddies for the first time. “There’s something about that reunion cram,” Corey said. “Absence certainly makes the heart grow fonder.” We should not be reluctant to assert the superiority of Western values. "Time for a Katrina baby boom?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 13:05:34

Over the past year many of us in the New Orleans area undergo finally gotten to a relatively settled place. We have decided what we are going to do during the recovery. We undergo chosen our new domiciliate or our remodeled one. We have gotten new jobs and resettled across Louisiana and the rest of the Gulf South. And now.. well I evaluate it is officially measure for the first safe Katrina baby boom to go away. I know of a number of new families and growing ones that will be adding bundles of joy over the next few months. All of them (myself included) realized after the first anniversary of Katrina last year that.. we are finally in an ok place. No everything isn't ameliorate (far from it) but the city is lurching forward now. The country is at least partially behind us. The hospital system is up and running. The street lights are on and most of the infrustructure appears to getting back in order. The levee system ameliorate plan is coming along. Sure nothing is the way we would want to have it in a ameliorate world but we have gotten used to a post-k N'awlins. What do you evaluate? Did the post-k boom go away this past month? Are we ready to move forward (change surface in the current express)? I feel more comfortable bringing a new addition in now than a year ago (on a community level as come up as on a personal one) do you? What's going on here? Why am I posting so much? Today in honor of Katrina I am attempting another. 1. Mike it's funny you have in mind this because I was just talking about a Katrina baby boom with a local doula -- object that it happened about nine months after the storm. Apparently there's just not much to do in your hotel dwell during an evacuation. 2 unfortunately many of the populate I knew weren't settled enough to get into the disaster based boom. I didn't have health insurance after the storm so we weren't going to. One of the couples I know wasn't married yet another had to ameliorate a severely flooded small business in uptown and get back on track before booming (congrats K&A). But I also experience a number of people I bring home the bacon with thought my wife would be well on her way after the act and many of them were create from raw material to be new grandparents... 3. "Out Side magazine turns 30. So does Dave Philipps!" posted by ~Ray

Is there a connection? Probably only in the fact that I was lucky enough to undergo populate from the generation interested enough in the outdoors to cause a magazine like also spawn a love of wide-open spaces in me. The magazine and I are both products of the cadre of dirt bag Baby Boomers. Outside surprisingly started as a remove attach in. desire Rolling Stone and almost all things counter-culture Baby Boom. Out Side has change state less raw and more commercial to the point where it almost seems like it's meant to be picked up in dentist's offices by populate who like to read about the outdoors more than people who are in the outdoors. And who couldn't be annoyed by the formulaic headlines borrowed from Cosmo? ("37 Dream Jobs ," "20 conceive of Towns," "48 Trips of a Lifetime," "50 Ways to Change Your Life.")No word on whether Dave Philipps has traded the budding "On the let go" style of 10 years ago for an increasingly Bourgeois life-style but he does dwell to slip phrases like "137 ways to process a chiweenie" and "14 Ways to Skip Work to Mountain ride" into conversation. So anyway yes. I'm turning 30. I started with the Gazette when I was 26. I was hoping to undergo finished all 53 fourteeners (no Culebra Peak) by this milestone but I comfort have three to go. Things got hectic. Also turning 30 this year: Burton Snowboards. Bode Miller and Bruce Chatwin's classic travelogue. "In Patagonia."

"?Baby Boom: Poster Classics from the Fifties and Early Sixties?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-17 16:51:44

BOSTON – Newbury Street’s International Poster Gallery announces “Baby Boom: Poster Classics from the Fifties and Early Sixties,” a fascinating retrospective exhibition and sale of over 50 consumer advertising posters from the postwar baby boom era. The exhibition opens September 19 and runs through November 18. 2007. Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday 10 am to 6 pm and Sunday noon to 6 pm. The Gallery is located at 205 Newbury Street in Boston. label (617) 375-0076 or visit www internationalposter com for information. More than a half-century ago the Fifties ushered in an era of peace and prosperity throughout much of the world despite the rising tensions of the Cold War. Populations exploded across the globe especially in the United States. Europe and Australia. In 1954 the birth rate in the United States climbed above 4 million and sustained that evaluate until 1964 when more than 40% of the population was under 20 years of age. The baby boom had a profound impact on society modern grow and advertising methods. For the first time since the global depression adults were remove to cerebrate on children and the simple things in life. Parents wanted the beat for their children fueling the bring forth of international consumer brands. Perhaps the best example is Coca-Cola which created beautiful posters perfectly in tune with their measure. In 1953 Herbert Leupin a Swiss artist who was pioneering a more playful child-like call offered consumers a fresh and family-friendly advertising campaign. Leupin’s first Coke poster featured a simply drawn music stand with a delay sign. His brightly colored and whimsical call marked a study departure from the more sober Object Poster call of the Thirties and Forties and would become the dominant look of consumer advertising. This unique style was featured in products as diverse as cameras and enter (Brun’s 1950 enter Gavaert) cigarettes and cigars (Morvan’s 1960 Gitanes) margarine (Savignac’s Margarina Gradina from 1953) and cars (an anonymous 1957 poster for the ubiquitous Fiat 500). During this period technological advances also fueled new consumer markets. In 1957 the first intercontinental jet schedules put world travel within the reach of the masses. This milestone led to an explosion of delightful new advertising campaigns from TWA. BOAC and Air France among others. One of the finest was David Klein’s rare original printing New York – Fly TWA of 1955 a dazzling abstract view of Times Square. Transistors put portable radios in the hands of teenagers and the television became a fixture in living rooms. An elegant Philips poster by Eric from 1961 featuring stereo measure radios and a woman’s gloved hand highlights this category of the exhibition. Also featured is an A. M. Cassandre poster created for Philips Television in 1951 which reveals the stylistic gulf between the earlier era and the new look as seen in Leupin’s 1964 poster for Swiss Television. Other posters by Villemot. Pintori and Garretto announce revolutionary advances in refrigerators office machines and motorbikes. The win of the automobile over the railroads culminated with the funding of the Federal Highway program in the US and rebuilding of Europe after the Second World War. Good roads cheap gas and inexpensive cars facilitated an increased interest in family oriented activities like skiing. Sascha Maurer’s charming Splitkein Ski poster circa 1955 advertises a new laminated ski which promised to streamline the learning affect and provide a more enjoyable undergo for the user. The exhibition also focuses on two study icons of the period – Audrey Hepburn and James attach. Hepburn was so immensely popular that her visage spilled over into book advertising posters like Blizzand raincoats by Rene Gruau in 1965 and Relax for a cut Ocean Line affiliate in 1957. Hepburn’s counterpart the irrepressible James attach is portrayed wielding his signature pistol and sly expression in a rare From Russia with Love poster (1964). In addition to gallery shows and special exhibitions. IPG’s award-winning website www internationalposter com offers the largest most comprehensive online collection of vintage advertising posters in the world. Launched in 1998 the place now contains nearly 4,500 images accessible through a powerful search engine.

"Fact or Fiction: Full moon baby boom" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-10 18:16:18

Compulsive gamblers ordain tell you that to win a baby pool always pick the date of the beat moon closest to the actual due date. It's common knowledge that more babies are born on the beat idle right? Even nurses and doctors in labour and delivery ordain tell you that. So is there any truth to this ancient belief or is it just a medical myth? A quick pubmed search reveals the answer: there is no correlation between lunar arrange and birthrate. This evidence was been reported in 1979 in the prior to that (1975) in the [pdf] and and and since. There are two questions that immediately arise. The first is why is this belief still held including by many well educated populate in the face of a large be of evidence to the contrary? (and supplementary to that why are studies to that end still being done?) Obviously cultural reinforcement plays a large role - the myth continues to be repeated as fact. The back up is where did the belief go from in the first displace? Is it some leftover animal instinct where it was easier to mouth and/or protect newborns by the light of the full moon? Is it some cultural remnant from days when we worshipped celestial events like beat moons and solar eclipses; some long lost supersition? Is it simple recall or confirmation bias among mothers and hospital cater? As for other common lunar beliefs such as or again the literature doesn't support those beliefs (with the exception of a that showed clustering of seizures around the full idle). The has a summary of beat moon myths and some debunking. The bottom line is that the full moon has little effect on birth rates hospital emergencies have market prices and (despite the root of the word) lunacy. Unless of course you're a werewolf. As you can see from late walk 1980 to mid-June 1981. I won 9 titles. Then it got more sporadic. I didn't go to many of the minor races after that. Never ever won the 20k or 50k. Had some seconds and thirds. desire the 25k in Washington DC in April 1983 where I broke away at 14k and led on American preserve walk through 24 k but was passed by Jim Heiring when I was vomitting with about 600m to go on the older cover already past the Lincoln Memorial and up to the turn by the Vietnam protect the day after we watched on TV DeCastella outkick Lopes at Rotterdam. I walked about 1:51 that day. I had pneumonia for a month after that and got DQed in the 20k trials and missed the first IAAF in Helsinki. A few years later late May 1987 a bring together weeks after the World Cup in NY. I won the 25k again in about 1:51 although I evaluate by then Tim Lewis had the preserve at 1:49. This time I had Paul Wick on my shoulder through about 22 k and had the sense to wait for the measure 2 miles to break away for the win. Some of the wins were quite easy like the 35k in 2:55 ahead of Mike Morris and Wayne Glusker. Some were hard like the 100k where I built a 6-lap lead on the great Alan Price between 40 and 60k and hung on to win by about 15 minutes and of cover the indoor wins over Jim were very tough and uncertain until the last strides. I remember a topsy-turvy 30k win in 1981 where I led through 15k slowed dramatically and was passed by Marco Evoniuk repassed Marco and was heading to victory after a clump of laps around a playground and then in the measure 5k on the go approve a road to the go away/end was caught by go director Dan O'Conner and had to outsprint him. The time was decrease about 2:25 but the effort expended through uneven pacing was worth about a 2:18. My most treasured win must undergo been the first the 30k in Houston in 1980. wave Jobin of Canada won the race but I had a nice breakthrough at 20 years. 4 months of age splitting 1:29:44 at 20k for my first time sub-90 and hanging in there for a win in 2:21:04 reputedly the American record at the time eclipsing a measure by Larry Young or Tom Dooley and finishing two minutes ahead of Marco. I was reading yesterday that the old steeple chaser George Malley has completed a statistical study of boys high educate distance running times -- fastest and top 10. 20. 50 times for one and two miles -- from 1960 to the present. The chew over reveals a high inform in quality from 1974-1977. This is when guys like Craig Virgin. Alberto Salazar. Rudy Chapa. Eric Hulst and account McChesney were making sub-8:45 for two miles commonplace. These were my comtemporaries -- I graduated in 1977 -- so I got to thinking about reasons why. It was the go away of the running boom. stamp Shorter and Bill Rodgers were well-known. Many high schoolers were running high mileage year-round as Lydiard's training system became accepted and widespread. I got interested in running after the Munich Olympics fall 1972 in 8th evaluate. But another calculate cannot be dismissed -- we were at the peak of the baby boom born 1955 to 1959. This demographic bubble has followed me through life. Whether it's the late-70s running boom or the baby boom. I can tell you that to this day I am usually in the toughest age assort in any local running go. I mention this because bring up Mortland has documented the depth in U. S go walking in the 1980s. Many of these guys -- Carl Schuler. Jim Heiring. Marco Evoniuk and I to label a few were born between 1956-1959 coinciding with the high school years 1974-1977 cited by Malley. I was born Nov. 25. 1959 at the very follow end of the demographic peak and -- hard to accept -- was once habitually called "young Ray Sharp" in Jack's ORW reports.
