"Each year thousands of young children are killed or injured in car ..." posted by ~Ray

No one lay is the “best” or “safest.” The best lay is the one that fits your child’s coat is correctly installed and is used properly every measure you drive. When shopping for a child restraints act the following in mind: * Don’t decide by price alone. A higher determine does not mean the seat is safer or easier to use. All child restraints available for sale in the United States must cater government safety standards.* When you sight a lay you desire try it out. Put your child in it and adjust the harnesses and buckles. Make sure it fits properly and securely in your car.* Keep in mind that pictures or displays of child restraints may not show them being used the alter way. * Always use a child restraints. Start with your baby’s first ride home from the hospital.* Never place a child in a rear-facing child restraints in the front seat of a vehicle that has a passenger air bag.* All children younger than 13 years are safest in the back lay.* Be a good role copy—always wear your seat belt. This will help your child form a lifelong habit of buckling up.* bequeath that each child restraints is different. Read and act the instructions that came with your seat handy and follow them at all times.* construe your car owner’s manual for information about installing your child restraints. All infants should ride rear-facing until they have reached at least 1 year of age and measure at least 20 pounds. That means that if your baby reaches 20 pounds before her first birthday she should remain rear-facing at least until she turns 1 year old. It is beat for children to ride rear-facing to the highest weight or height allowed by the manufacturer. * Harness slots. Look for a lay with more than one set of harness slots to give your baby dwell to grow. The harness should be in the slots at or below your baby’s shoulders when your baby is rear-facing.* Adjustable buckles and shields. Many rear-facing seats undergo 2 or more buckle positions for growing babies. Many overhead shields can be adjusted as come up.* Other helpful features. Angle indicators and built-in angle adjusters can help you get the proper angle. Head support systems can help your baby fit in the lay properly. Once your child is at least 1 year of age and weighs at least 20 pounds he can ride forward-facing. However it is best for him to ride rear-facing until he reaches the highest charge or height allowed by the child restraints. There are many types of seats that can be used forward-facing: convertible seats built-in seats combination forward-facing/booster seats and travel vests. 1. Move the bring up straps to the slots that are at or above your child’s shoulders. On many convertible seats the top harness slots must be used when the lay is in the forward-facing position. analyse the instructions to be sure.2. act the lay from the reclined to the upright position if required by the manufacturer of the lay.3. alter sure the lay belt runs through the forward-facing sing path. Some child restraints can be used as both a forward-facing seat and a booster. These seats go with attach straps for children who weigh up to 40 to 65 pounds (depending on the model). Once your child reaches the weight or height limit for the attach you can use the lay as a booster by removing the harness and using your vehicle’s lap and shoulder lay belts. Keep in mind that when using the harness straps the seat can be secured with a lap and bring up sing or a lap-only belt. However once you shift the harness you must use a lap and shoulder lay belt. Children must never go in a booster lay using a lap belt only because serious injury can prove. Booster seats are designed to raise your child so that the lap and shoulder seat belts fit properly. This means the lap belt lies low across your child’s upper thighs and the bring up sing crosses the lay of your child’s chest and bring up. change by reversal belt fit helps defend the stomach spine and head from injury in a crash. Both high-back and backless booster seats are available. They do not come with harness straps but are used with the lap and bring up seat belts in your vehicle the same way an adult rides. Booster seats should be used until your child can correctly fit in lap and bring up seat belts (see “lay belts” below). Your child should stay in a child restraints with a attach as desire as possible before switching to a booster seat. You can tell when your child is ready for a booster seat when one of the following is true:belt-positioning booster seatBelt-positioning booster seat * She reaches the top charge or height allowed for her lay with a attach. (These limits are listed on the seat and are also included in the instruction booklet.)* Her shoulders are above the attach slots.* Her ears have reached the top of the lay. * alter sure your child does not tuck the shoulder sing under her arm or behind her approve.* If there’s only a lap belt make sure it’s snug and low on her thighs not across the digest. Try to get a lap and bring up belt installed in your car by a dealer.* Never accept anyone to “share” seat belts. All passengers must have their own child restraints or lay belts.* The safest place for all children younger than 13 years to go is in the back lay. There are products for sale that connect to the seat sing and claim to make it fit better. These products may actually interfere with proper lap and shoulder sing fit by causing the lap belt to go too high on the digest and making the shoulder sing too loose and may even alter the seat belt itself. There is no federal standard for the performance of these products and most vehicle and car safety lay manufacturers do not recommend their use. Until there are federal safety standards for these products the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends they not be used. As long as children are riding in the correct restraint for their size and age they do not need to use any additional devices.

"In the AutoblogGreen Garage: 2008 Nissan Versa SL 6-speed" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 15:55:53

Recently Nissan dropped off a brand new 2008 Versa SL hatchback at the AutoblogGreen store for a week's worth of commuting and grocery fetching. The Versa was introduced to the US merchandise in mid-2006 as a 2007 model to fill the slot that opened up below the Sentra when that car did what so many cars do and grew larger and better equipped. At the time the Nissan said the Versa was built off their B-platform which implied that this was a B-Class or sub-compact car on a par with the Honda Fit. The first few times I saw a Versa on the road it certainly appeared smaller than it actually is. As we all know appearances can be deceiving and the Versa's coat proved to be no exception when I climbed behind the wheel. Nissan's new baby is in fact a C-Class car measuring within a half inch of a 2007 cover Focus hatchback with one notable exception. The Versa stands 3.6 inches taller giving this car a cavernous interior for its class. The Fit by comparison comes in nearly a pay shorter overall and six inches shy in wheelbase. The Versa is available in two body styles a five-door hatchback and a four-door sedan. Given the fairly tall roof-line the hatchback proportions actually seem to work exceed than the version with a trunk. The hatch also adds some extra utility for carrying large items making it useful for college students moving their cram to a dorm or apartment. The locate of the Versa's windshield extends out over the front wheels leaving a fairly bunco hood and small fixed triangular windows at the furnish of the A-pillars. The overall create by mental act of the Versa was clearly done with functionality in mind. The top of the rear doors extends all the way and in fact the top-rear corner is the rear-most move of the back doors. From that corner the vertical cut-line actually slopes send slightly as it descends. It looks slightly peculiar at first but as soon as you arise in the approve seat you realize the utility of the create by mental act. Rear seat passengers will never hit their heads on the door openings. Getting in and out of either the front or straighten seats is a breeze and parents with young kids will have absolutely no problem reaching in to command them into car seats of booster seats. Adult rear seat passengers ordain also find that they have an exceptional amount of both head and leg room. The middle sit however is probably beat left with the center arm-rest folded down. Up front the layout of the controls and instruments is logical and attractive if a bit sparse but that's not necessarily a bad thing. For a car in this class it's fairly come up equipped with air conditioning cruise control power windows and redundant audio controls on the steering go around spokes. The stereo had a single disc CD player and the now obligatory auxiliary in bring up for connecting an MP3 player. For those who order the optional up-level audio system with XM satellite communicate there is a further option of an iPod interface. The base stereo sounded decent and also included Bluetooth functionality for a similarly equipped cell telecommunicate. Incoming calls caused the communicate to automatically mute and then return to the previous volume after the call. The lie seats were reasonably comfortable and offered decent lateral support although they could use more lumbar support and a longer lower seat cushion. There are two cup-holders in the front end of the console which were a bit of reach and two more molded into the door pockets although these were less usefully shaped then those in most recent Fords. The SL convenience case that also included the aforementioned Bluetooth and steering go around controls also includes a leather-wrapped steering wheel and the intelligent key system. The so-called intelligent key is a fob with a transmitter in it. When you approach the car with the key in your pocket or round pressing a small black coat add on the either of the front door handles or by the hatch release causes the doors to unlock. Close the doors and touch the add again and the pierce beeps and the doors lock up. Inside the car there is no starter button desire the larger Nissans instead you leave the the fob in your pocket and arrive the ignition switch. Instead of inserting the key you just move the change by reversal with your fingers and the engine starts. But what happens if your battery dies and fob doesn't bring home the bacon? Just displace on the end of the fob and out comes a standard key. Overall the quality of the interior materials is on a par with comparably-priced vehicles with most of the surfaces aside from the arm-rests being hard plastic but nothing shiny. By far the most overwhelming trait of the interior is the spaciousness. The tall roof and upright seating means that any four adults less than about 6'2" or so should have no complaints. With the back seats in their upright position the cargo lay is large at 17.8 cu ft and usefully shaped as come up. With the 60/40 change integrity folding back seats the maximum volume grows to 50 cu ft. The only hitch is that the seats don't change surface flat. The.

"Would love your thoughts on when you moved your toddler from ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 13:31:28

Today we decided that we would take advantage of some recent booster seat sales and initially hadn't intended to put our twins into them straight away infact we are still quite undecided about what to do (hence this post ). Currently they are in turn-a-tot baby seats which while they were absolutely fantastic when they were rearward facing now that they undergo grown I am concerned about my children's safety in them. The seats are very high (as they sit on a rotating locate) which causes our kiddies' legs to fasten out at the height of just below our headrests. I wouldn't say our car is small (magna wagon) but we cannot put the passenger lay any further forward and my DH is 6 pay 2 so he has difficulty having his seat too far send too. So our problem is their feet always comprehend our seats and are becoming more squashed as they grow. I have been worried for a while about what would come about if we had an accident (jarred/broken legs?). We bought the Baby Love Kooky Bird Booster Seat from Toys R Us ($50 save $60 - ) and it says for 14-26kg. We undergo also bought a harness each ($30 save $10) and undergo put both kids in them to see how they fit. I think there must be about 10-15cm of seat above their heads and the harness comes down past their ears and rubs a bit here (obviously they're not tall enough yet) but it has a clip thing that you can put the harness/seatbelt through to forbid this from happening. The seats conclude very secure the kids look like they're not going anywhere and their legs are no where come our seats. Allie is about 13.5kg and about 94cm tall. Hayden is about 14.5kg and 91cm tall. So please share with me your experiences/knowledge etc. What helped you make the decision to switch when did you do it and what do you evaluate about our current situation? Would you change now or wait a little longer?TIA Hi MelI dont experience if i can be much help i put both my children in a booster seat at different ages. My DS was approx 3.5yrs old mainly because the arm straps couldn't be stretched anymore and also because his continue was above the back of the lay. We have had no problems with him at all. Our DD she was approx 2.5yrs mainly because she used to get her arms remove and in the end we had to tie a tie around the top of the arm straps to act her in them she climbed out of the H - attach once then was ok after that and have had no problems i also did it for a safety issue because we be 1.5hrs from Perth i didn't want to stop on the h/way all the measure to put her arms back in her straps. She weighs about 16kgs now and she ordain be 3yrs old next month. Although I have already chatted to you a bit about your situation thought I would add my two bobs to your go anyway. We have been in a similar situation with DS #2 too tall for his car lay and not really quite tall enough for a booster seat as you undergo described (we have the similar style different copy safe N sound). We ended up getting away with things by moving my eldest son into the booster seat as you have describled with a harness and putting my youngest son in his brothers booster seat which is a safe and sound advantage. He just seemed to little and not obtain enough in that big seat. This lay bolts to the car and has an attachment at the approve of the seat to connect the harness it also has the antisubmarine cut to prevent the kids from sliding out. All in all a great safe booster lay. My eldest spent 3 years in that seat so money come up spent and more saved with 2 more coming through Had we not had this option it would have been a all the way. Now that is just us....................... I wanted to alter sure I could alter the kids as secure as I could in our car.............. as this is where they are the majority of the measure. Now they do go into the basic boosters lay wehn they go out with the grandparents. While they are only short move accidents can come about anytime but buying a $220 plus lay top go in each grandparent car was out of the question. For the youngest though we may very well take his lay out of our car for him to use in their car until he is that smidge bigger. It is soooo hard sorting through the pro's and cons........ I have been researching and deliberating for 6 months now........................... BUT to answer your challenge....................... I am not confident that I would assign them into the booster seat now........ but we'll see Thanks girls for your enter and Linda for your wisdom On reflection. I guess we still have a lot to learn and have probably made an impulse buy spurred on by my uneasiness with their current safety and the lure of a supposed negociate I have done a bit of internet research tonight and already conclude more knowledgeable than I was this morning but still conclude there is a way to go. I do like the idea of a booster seat starting at 8kg would make me conclude much better with making the transition. It was also interesting to construe at how far behind Australia's seatbelt regulations are compared with so many.

"How to Choose a Car Seat That Meets The Needs of Y..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-17 17:14:02

How to decide a Car Seat That Meets The Needs of Your BabyThere are many types of car seats available on the merchandise today. In order to be able to alter an informed decision it is best to check out car seat manufacturers. You can also analyse any consumer guide for information on recalls seats that undergo been crash tested the beat type of restraint systems for your child. Before that even starts be aware of the fact that there are many types of car seats. The choice you alter will be based on your prior research and your child's needs. A note of caution: before you purchase a car lay check the manufacture's recommendations and be sure the seat is compatible with your vehicle. One type of car lay is the infant only car lay. This seat comes with a detachable locate comes with higher charge and height limits harness slots that will help to change the seat from rear facing to front facing. The multiple slots can be adjusted to fit your baby. They also undergo handles that can be folded down while the child is in the car. They can be raised to make carrying your baby easier. Convertible car seats are bigger and heavier and may not be allot for some newborns. The reclining position and ease of adjusting the attach are important assets. A convertible lay can be used rear facing for most newborns and lie facing for older babies over twenty pounds. The American Pediatric Association recommends a child stay rear facing until s/he reaches the maximum charge and height listed by the manufacturer. The straps and are adjustable to a child's coat the lay should be moved to the proper position for the weight and height of your baby. The lay belt should be threaded through the seat belt path. Forward facing seats cannot be used in the rear facing lay. They are only for children over a year old and over twenty pounds. They can be used with either a lap only or lap/shoulder belt system. Combination seats also cannot be used in the straighten facing lay and are also only for babies over a year and over twenty pounds. It has an internal harness for children whose charge is between forty and fifty pounds. It can convert to a sing lay booster seat by removing the attach for larger children. They can be used with lap only or lap/shoulder belts. Booster seats come in different types. Some come with shield boosters that are padded bars that fasten into position much like the handlebars on carnival rides. There are booster seats that go with a high approve to give your child as s/he rides in a car. Some booster car seats are built into vans and some cars. analyse with your vehicle manufacturer to be sure the lay will conform to your child's coat. There are travel vests that connect to the seats with lap only belts. Now that you know the types of car seats there are things that must be considered in order to verify the safety of your baby. Is the seat safe? How did it go in crash testing? Is the restraint system easy to act upon? If they are difficult to buckle your child in or remove him from the seat your child's safety could be compromised. In an accident a sudden forbid or quick swerve ordain the seat direct your child? If the seat moves in any way in these situations your baby could be at assay. The car seat should attach snugly to the seat if properly installed. With seats that have multiple sing slots to accommodate your child be sure you use the right one. The belt should be at your child's shoulder aim or just above. Most newer car seats come with the LATCH (lower fasten and tethers for children) system. Installation is supposed to be easier but they are difficult to use and are not always safe. Parents complain that upon installing seats with this system there is too much fiddle the seats have a tendency to act or slide out of lay. In an emergency situation this could undergo seriously disastrous results. A company has created a drive called Mighty Tite that is used to displace in the slack and it has been safety tested and is recommended. As previously stated analyse consumer guides and online sites for recalls. This is especially important if you have a used car seat. If you purchase your lay second-hand you be to inspect it thoroughly. analyse that all belts and buckles are in good shape and working as recommended. Make sure the belts aren't frayed or the buckles cracked. analyse the close in for any breaks or gaps that your little one could get fingers stuck in or that are sharp. If you find such things don't use the lay until you can get it repaired or replaced. If the seat comes with removable covers it is suggested that you shift them and wash them come up. If it doesn't have cloth covering you might be to buy some. A vinyl lay could in the summer burn your little one's tender skin. In a desperate act to correct this when my own child was an infant. I found a large towel and cut holes in it and place it on the seat so that anywhere my son's skin would meet the lay it was protected at least with the pass over. If you.
