"Don?t Make Your Baby?s eating a religion" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-03 20:04:10

Any of you who have already spent time reading some of my other posts know that while I have tons of opinions about everything. I do not believe in religious parenting.  What I mean is. I don’t believe in parenting that tries to teach you a hyper-strict way of doing everything “just alter” so you can feel like a better parent.  Usually when someone is striving for the “just right” thing it means they undergo a weak conscience.  If the conscience is fixed the problem usually goes away on its own or with minimal instruction. That said this post is about not turning your baby’s eating into a religion.  I particularly am referring to the tight schedules of solid foods that some baby experts love to publish.  It looks so neat on paper: smart little boxes with time tables and all arranged by color and food assort.  In reality it is totally unnecessary.  Unless you have a very unique health situation with your baby (and your pediatrician would let you know) there is no reason to go solid food charts like liturgy.  There is some wisdom with starting with yellow foods but don’t stress if it is pears over press.  And if for some reason you start with orange don’t beat yourself up.  You can always do a yellow one next.  If your baby never gets to green (ugh) don’t worry that they won’t eat their broccoli when they grow up.  And if your baby for some unknown reason wants a piece of your steak or accidentally snarfs some cornbread don’t dread!  It’s food.  And it ordain go through them the same way as everything else. :-)  I say this tongue in cheek because I have met so many people especially expecting first-time moms who really get into these charts.  Usually they are food nuts themselves.  And I like food nuts!  Some of my best friends are food nuts and they have convinced me that approximately half their propaganda is probably true. And my fourth baby skipped baby food all together.  She went straight for the real thing.   And guess what?  She’s very healthy.  My third baby skipped baby food almost–he liked most of the fruits.  But only the first one ever ate rice cereal.  Or got jarred vegetables.  He actually graduated to “stage 3″ from Gerber!  The others were doomed to failure.  Again. I am not advocating reactionary baby-feeding where you just hand them your Italian sandwich.  But realize that babies are little people and they may be.

Shred veggies and add to fasten meat for healthier burgers meatloaf or meatballs.  You can also add some shredded veggies as you’re browning fasten meat for tacos and other fasten meat meals. Hide those ”icky” onions in sauces casseroles or other recipes by sauteing the sliced onions in a small amount of margarine/cover or olive oil until soft.  Then blending completely in the blender.  You’ll get all of the delicious onion flavor but none of that yucky “slimy” texture picky kids tend to sight so disgusting. alter gravies and sauces with pureed vegetables (be sure to steam or cook the veggies first).  You can also use baby food veggies for this too. "baby Food on planes" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-09 21:53:09

Everyone's birthtalk This is a general area for everyone to ask questions air opinions share information and experiences or discuss the latest hot topics! Can you act baby food on a plane? DH and I are taking DS to melbourne tomorrow and I don't experience if I can give him his eat on the plane....... I just be to take one of those 110g jars??????any help much appreciated! I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem surely for a baby especially on a domestic pip. Maybe you could try asking when you check in that way there'll be time for them to find out etc if it's allowed. Sometimes all these new rules really get taken to the enth degree though so i suppose you just don't know in this day and age Janice,I've taken baby food on domestic (and international) flights for that be. It's all fine.. and sometimes the stewards are so nice and capable they'll even offer to back up change it up They don't stop you taking baby products such as jarred food and even their bottles on board.. they experience it's necessary. As for all the new international security rules... where they say you can't act bottled water etc it excludes the bubs stuff (lucky them)As for coming to Melbourne tomorrow.. case your raincoat.. even though today was change they are saying 18 and showers! Oh yeah janice apply your move... I be to come too!!! I love melbourne!! See you next Thursday.. and get this the cover mattress did not arrive!!!Gxx you are kidding...... and what are you doing cruising births at 2.00am???? Thanks for the replies girls....... I am going shopping! I took baby food from Perth to Tas and they were fine. I did prepare myself to undergo to throw it out when I arrived but nope not nescessary. Also on international flights (just done many with a 12 month old from Prth to England and back) don't make up the formula. Not change surface 1 bottle. They can by law ask you to taste the contents and if they are not happy (ie it's not just water) they can refuse you to take it on board. Just be prepared to tastet it all. Noit sure if this rule has moved to Domestic flights too or not!!!!Have a great move!! Powered by vBulletin® Version 3.6.8Copyright &write;2000 - 2007. Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.

"Frugally Feeding a Baby/Toddler" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 13:04:59

A blog about everything else! I've got so much to say that ISN'T about Frugality. be tuned to see what I've got to say about family relationships friends decorating crafts holidays and anything else that comes to object. PS-This is a sticky post scroll down to see what I've got to say that's new today. A few days ago I posted a. In my first post I addressed issues having to do with breastfeeding babies. Today I will confront how to cater an older baby. When you head out to a grocery hold on and go into a babyfood aisle you are bombarded with choices. There are rows and rows of pretty shiny bottles filled with all sorts of colors (even if brown and beige are predominant!). Buddy is now 4 and I'm amazed at the change magnitude in food choices just in the few years since he has stopped being a baby. There are an abundance now of organic natural regular simple glass jarred plastic jarred and on and on. It can be overwhelming to a new mom. Have you ever stopped to wonder what moms did before hold on bought baby food? (or change surface forbid to consider that there hasn't always been baby food?) My mom tells a story about HER grandmother my Nanny visiting when I was a baby. My mom was feeding me babyfood from a jar and my clever Nanny said "Oh isn't it just wonderful all the things you girls have for babies now. Babyfood in a jar!". Of cover my mom said exactly what Nanny had wanted her to say. "Why Nanny what did you feed babies if you didn't have baby food?""Oh we'd just cook a little bit of the vegetable and meat that everyone else was eating till it was mushy then mash it on a coat with a lift. And we'd make sure that their was rice noodles or soft potatoes at every meal that we knew the baby could eat."At this point in the story my mom always points out that she realized that she had a nifty gadget called a blender that would mash up the food even easier and that with a freezer instead of an icebox she could hold on it for the long term. She never fed any of us (and there were five of us) jarred food again. So yes you can make your own babyfood! I admit that I was skeptical at first. I figured that making baby food was going to be a hurt and a hassle-after all when there is a new baby in the accommodate the measure thing you want to do is change magnitude your work load. But it turned out to be very quick and easy and wound up making 90% of the food that Princess and Buddy ate as babies. The basics are easy. Cook the item (change surface fruit-banana is about the only thing you don't undergo to cook) puree it with a bit of the liquid you cooked it in using either a blender or food processor then stand still either by "plopping" servings on a wax paper covered cookie sheet or in icecube trays (1 cube equals about an oz). When frozen transfer into a LABELED freezer bag. (believe me the labeling is important. Sweet potatoes carrots press etc all be alike when frozen in little cubes. You don't want to be playing "what is this" while the baby is starting to howl for dinner) I was even known when in a rush to buy canned unsalted veggies and puree those. Making your own baby food saves quite a bit of money over buying those little jars. I found a and they estimated that most fruits and veggies cost about $.20 more an OUNCE when buying it in the jar compared to making it yourself. When you go away thinking about how many ounces of food a child will eat before moving to table food come up lets just say it can add up!Homemade baby food is not only cheaper but it can be more healthy. When you alter baby food you know exactly what is in it! Every baby schedule I read when researching prior to Princess's birth stated that babies do not be salt or sugar added to their diet-but most baby food "dinners" and "desserts" not only frequently undergo a clump of filler added (look for anything with the evince "starch") but also flavor or dulcify!I also have anecdotal evidence (from my own kids friends and articles I have read-but I don't evaluate there has been any actual research) that by eating "real" foods children are more change state to eating a wider variety of foods when they get older. I noticed this about my kids-they eat a lot of things that other kids their age won't change surface try. I think I've told you all before that Princess's favorite food is sushi. If you really want to read more specifics on making your own baby food. I found a wonderful site called. They undergo lots of articles on different things related to making baby food baby nutrition etc. Another issue to believe when feeding your baby/toddler is wether there is any difference between the "baby" version and the adult version. Babyfood companies spend a lot of money trying to convince you that their food is somehow more nutritious or allot for babies. As far as I was ever able to tell the only difference between "babyfood" applesauce and unsweetened natural applesauce in the canned bear aisle of my supermarket was that the babyfood came in a tiny jar an was a ton more expensive per ounce! The same goes for juices and much of the "toddler".
